Complaints about psychosocial hazards

Last updated: 15 June 2026

What are work-related psychosocial hazards

Work-related psychosocial hazards are aspects of how work is designed, managed, or experienced that can harm a worker’s psychological health.

Some hazards can cause harm quickly. For example, workplace violence or threats can lead to serious stress or trauma.

Other hazards build up over time. Ongoing exposure to high workloads, bullying, harassment, or poor workplace support can affect a worker’s health.

Role of WorkSafe

WorkSafe administers and enforces the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2022 (General, Mines, Petroleum and Geothermal Energy).

When WorkSafe receives a report, we consider whether workplaces are identifying, assessing and controlling psychosocial hazards properly.

WorkSafe does not resolve individual employment disputes or grievances.

Where evidence suggests psychosocial hazards are not being managed effectively, a WorkSafe inspector may take compliance action to address work health and safety risks.
