Online learning programs

Last updated: 24 April 2026

WorkSafe provides online educational programs to help different stakeholders understand their roles, responsibilities and legal obligations, and how to protect their health and safety at work. Each program offers practical guidance and flexible, self‑paced learning to help people build the knowledge and skills needed for their specific role.

WorkSafe SmartMove

WorkSafe SmartMove is an online educational program for senior high school students and young people entering the workforce. This includes students on work placement, work experience, or school‑based traineeships or apprenticeships, as well as new workers. It is also suitable for young people starting casual, part‑time or seasonal jobs.

SmartMove features an animated character called SAMM (Spot the hazard, Assess the risk, Make the changes, and Monitor and follow up). SAMM guides young people through the SmartMove Certificate program.

The program includes general and industry‑specific modules with interactive sections that use graphic animations, gaming activities and quizzes to keep users engaged.

WorkSafe fatigue management training for commercial vehicle drivers

This free online fatigue management training helps commercial vehicle drivers and managers or supervisors understand the risks of fatigue and how to prevent it. The training supports compliance with fatigue management regulations for commercial vehicle driving.

If you drive a commercial vehicle for work in, or into, Western Australia, or you manage or provide administrative support for driver fatigue management, this training is for you.

Refer the Fatigue Management training website for eligibility details and role requirements.

Small Mine Statutory Position Assessment (SMSPA)

SMSPA provides a simpler pathway for small, lower‑risk mine operators to meet their Site Senior Executive (SSE) requirements. Under regulation 684 of the WHS Mines Regulations, eligible mines may appoint an SSE (Restricted) without meeting full qualification requirements. This helps operators meet their legal obligations in a practical and accessible way.

Please refer to the SMSPA website for full eligibility requirements and further information.
