Workplaces must be ventilated to allow work to be carried out without risk to health and safety. Fresh, clean air should be drawn from outside the workplace, uncontaminated by discharge from flumes or other outlets, and be circulated through the workplace. Workplaces inside buildings may have natural ventilation, mechanical ventilation such as fans or extraction units, standalone air-conditioning, or air-conditioning as part of a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC).
