Western Australian Government and local government have a responsibility to identify and assess the risks of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) in all government-controlled buildings, land, and infrastructure. This work is a critical part of the Asbestos National Strategic Plan (ANSP).
The ANSP takes a phased approach to eliminating asbestos-related diseases in Australia by preventing exposure to deadly asbestos fibres. Its goal is to deliver a nationally consistent and coordinated framework for asbestos awareness, management, and removal—ensuring that communities are protected, risks are managed, and resources are used effectively
The Across Agency Asbestos Group (AAAG) is a working group of key state government agencies with significant asbestos management responsibilities. The AAAG is a forum for coordination and collaboration, where agencies discuss the challenges and solutions they find in the eradication of ACM within the built environment.
A whole-of-government action plan, supported by monitoring activities, is being developed to guide the implementation of the ANSP 2023–2030 in Western Australia. The action plan will provide a coordinated and systematic approach to asbestos management. (Note: This document is currently under development and will be published on the website when finalised.)
Stakeholders will be informed of reporting requirements as soon as they are finalised.
AAAG membership comprises representatives from the following organisations:
