Being an employer of a workplace where there was a crane, namely a non-slewing tractor crane with a capacity of greater than 3 tonne, failed to ensure that the crane was operated in accordance with Australian Standard 2550.1-1993.

Background Details:
A 6 tonne mobile crane was being used by an employee of AA Sandblasting. This employee was not a certificated operator of the crane as required by regulation 6.3. An improvement notice was issued requiring the employer to require a certificated operator to operate the crane.

A guilty plea was entered.

Convicted on Tuesday, January 13, 1998 at Perth Court of Petty Sessions.
