  WORKSAFE SMART MOVE

student guide . . .

Welcome to WorkSafe Smart Move, a safety and health resource package for years 10, 11 and 12 high school students going on work experience and work placements.

This Internet resource is designed to help you improve your knowledge and understanding of occupational safety and health matters before you go to a workplace. It will help you understand occupational safety and health hazards and laws and provide practical solutions to some common safety and health problems.

Employers provide students with valuable opportunities to gain experience in the workplace. It is important to understand that employers have responsibilities towards you, and that you also have responsibilities towards them.

WorkSafe Smart Move consists of:

Whilst it is expected that the industry modules will be completed mainly by students in years 11 and 12 they can be completed at any time they become relevant to your part-time work or work experience placement.

    Multiple-Choice Tests

There are separate tests for the General Module and each industry module. Each module contains several sections. You should work through a module, reading and studying the information, before you attempt a self-marking multiple-choice test.

Before you start the questions, it is important to type your name on the computer screen exactly as you want it to appear on your certificate.

    WorkSafe Smart Move Certificates

There are certificates for the General Module and each industry module that can be printed off the Internet when you answer at least 12 out of 16 questions correctly.

The certificates recognise your understanding of basic occupational safety and health information and can be kept in your portfolio.

Tests and certificates are available only through the Internet.

    Resources

The activity sheets can be printed from the Internet. Some activities are designed to complete in class with your teacher, others you can complete by yourself.

    Links

Direct links are provided to some relevant resources on WorkSafe's Internet site (eg. information about WorkSafe's induction video New to the Job) and also to other Internet sites with occupational safety and health information and activities.
